Mini-Vacation in the Pines

The boys and I met Mom and Hank up in Pinetop this past weekend to get out of the heat. We had a great time. The boys loved exploring, playing with Grandma and Grandpa, riding bikes, and just being outside. Mommy was able to take naps and sleep in!! Here are a few of my favorite pictures from the weekend.

Why can't you sleep?

Now that the boys are sharing a room the amount of time it takes them to fall asleep has increased greatly. We like to look at it as brother bonding time as we hear them talking and giggling each night. The past couple of nights Hunter has been coming out to tell us that he can't sleep and here's his reason why:

Mommy, I can't sleep because Jacob is talking to me and Jacob can't sleep because I'm talking to him.

Hmmm...at least he says it's both of them and not just Jacob's fault!! When I nicely suggest that they both stop talking to each other he looks at me like I'm nuts. Thankfully Jacob is still in his crib and can't get out otherwise we'd have both of them out all the time.

Boys night at the monster truck show

Last night we went to the Monster Truck show at the Cardinal's Stadium with Simone and Owen. It was quite an experience! We got there around 4:45 to walk the floor to see the trucks. I think the dinosaur one was the favorite of all 3 boys. We now know the names of some monster trucks...Bigfoot, Jurassic Attack, Predator, Maniac, etc. We are true fans! The show wasn't supposed to start until 7:30 so we went up to our seats and Owen promptly passed out! There was stuff going on on the floor and he could care less. The trucks didn't start racing until 8 or so but the boys did really good waiting. Once the trucks started racing it got loud and the boys liked it. Hunter has said he wants to be a monster truck driver when he grows up. By 9:00 everyone was done and they hadn't even gotten to the free style portion (where I think they smash cars and stuff...that's what Simone and I wanted to see!). Amazingly no one fell asleep on the way home but the boys (well at least Hunter and Jacob) slept until 7:45 this morning!

New Beds!!!

Wow it's been awhile since I've updated her! Well the biggest update is that the boys got bunk beds a couple of weeks ago (thank you Grandma and Grandpa Funk!). Since the boys are sharing a room now bunk beds make the most sense space wise for them...there is a dresser on one side and shelves on the other. Hunter and Jacob LOVE them. Hunter is on the top and thinks it's the coolest place ever and sleeps really well in his new bed. I wasn't ready for Jacob to sleep in a regular bed yet so we took apart the bottom bed and rolled his crib underneath so he still gets to feel like a big kid.

More updated pics to come when I get my camera back. :)

Brothers

Jacob and Hunter have been getting along so well lately. They are really starting to play together and take care of each other. I love watching them grow closer and can't wait to see what happens next. Some of their favorite things are to chase each other around the house and then hide from me. Hunter has a tendency to be pretty bossy with Jacob but I think that's just par for the course. Today at lunch is a good example of this: Jacob was eating his chips first and not his turkey. Hunter decided to step in and try to take Jacob's chips away so he would eat his turkey...watch out! Never, ever take chips away from Jacob...lol. At least I know that Hunter is always looking out for Jacob...right?! :)

Phone Conversation

Hunter and Jacob have been into the cordless phones around the house for the past couple of days. I was making dinner the other night and Jacob was pretending to talk on the phone...

Jacob: chattering away on the phone, occasionally saying "hi"

Me: Jacob, who are you talking to?

Hunter (sounding like I'm a moron for not knowing): Shrek and Fiona

Me: Huh, ok. Jacob (trying to get a response from him), who are you talking to?

Hunter (very exasperated): Moooooom I told you, Shrek and Fiona!

I will say that we never have a lack of imagination in our house!

First Day of Preschool!

Yesterday (Tuesday, August 14) was Hunter's first day of preschool and I think he had a great time. He's going to a home preschool called Foundation Early Learning. The 2 teachers are sisters and both have their degrees in education. Hunter was excited that morning as we packed his backpack (preschool folder and apples for his snack) and got his water bottle ready. When we pulled up, his teacher, Miss Lou Lou, was there waiting for him. He got out and went with her no problems at all.

Jacob loved hanging out with Mama all morning and getting all of the attention. We played tools and hide n seek, finger painted, and tried to watch Devil Wears Prada (he wasn't too interested in that).

When we picked Hunter up, he came running out with a smile on his face. They must have just gotten done playing outside because his face was red and sweaty. He told me that he played outside and got to see the turtles. He also said that he had gummy bears for a snack! You want to win Hunter over...bring on the candy. We asked him if he met any friends and his response, "There was a boy named Brayden." Great :) Hopefully tomorrow we'll get more information out of him!
